Uruguay | Development of its Wine Tourism Offer with Relevant Initiatives

Uruguay is gaining recognition as a relevant destination for wine tourism, the South American country with its wineries offer diverse experiences from grand estates to intimate boutique settings. The country's wine regions, including Canelones, Maldonado and Colonia, boast picturesque landscapes and a rich wine culture, making it an appealing destination for wine enthusiasts, and the country is taking this opportunity to develop its tourism offer in this segment with relevant initiatives.

The technical teams of MINTUR, the Ministry of Tourism and the Directorate of Tourism Development of the Canelones Authority , visited the Bracco Bosca, Gamba and Pizzorno Wineries, winners of the 2025 Competitive Funds for the development of the Wine Tourism offering granted by the ministry.

In the different instances, the progress of the projects was deepened, as well as the potentialities of articulation with the various enterprises and associative networks of the department, among other issues that make the development of Wine Tourism.

Benefited wineries with their initiatives are :

•    Bracco Bosca - THE WINE LAB project, which seeks to create a space for meeting and learning. It will be a club house designed as a wine laboratory, where participants will be able to experiment with different strains and components to create their own blends or "cuts".

•    Gamba - HERITAGE IN EACH GLASS : LIVE A WINE TOURISM EXPERIENCE IN EACH GLASS, which seeks the consolidation of an infrastructure with the aim of providing higher quality services.

•    Pizzorno - ASTRONOMICAL AND NATURAL WINE ECO SPA aims to offer wine therapy treatments : wine baths, exfoliation and massage with grape oil, to astrology workshops. To this end, the starting point will be the construction of two elements : a Dome and a handmade Vat.

Nowadays Uruguay offers a range of wine tourism options, from guided tours of large wineries to intimate tasting at smaller, family - run establishments. Many wineries, like Bodega Garzón, located in Garzón in the Department of Maldonado, emphasizes sustainable practices, including water conservation and organic farming.
