Vietnam | Betting on Digital Technology, Launching a new app to Reposition National Tourism

Vietnam’s tech sector is a booming global player, driven by a large workforce and a strong government support for digital transformation. In the Southeast Asian country technology trends focus on AI, cloud computing, and blockchain, with ongoing advancements exploring various areas and the innovative Visit Vietnam app, recently unveiled by the National Tourism Authority,  aims to be a new driver to reposition national tourism with the use of the most modern technological applications.

Vietnam tourism authorities are betting on digital technology launching  this “super app” to transform Vietnamese tourism. Its full launch is scheduled for 2027 with the ambition of making tourism a key sector and pillar of the economy, capable of contributing to double - digit growth in the period from 2026 to 2030. 

The project is led by the National Tourism Authority, the National Data Association, Sun Group and several international partners, such as Mastercard, Trip.com and Visa.

The app designed as one - stop - shop, the platform will integrate information, destinations reviews and booking services. 

With this innovative platform users will  be able to book with a single click, customize their itineraries using artificial intelligence, and access a complete ecosystem of transportation, accommodation, gastronomy, and leisure activities.

 According to the Vietnamese press, the platform pursues three objectives : 

•    Management
•    Economic activity
•    Visitor experience

In addition this super app will also be used to predict trends, optimize products, improve the experience, and guide public policy.

The government’s first national tourism dashboard will be launched next October, integrating travel planning and authentication of reviews via blockchain while the full version will be unveiled in 2027

In recent years, Vietnam’s tourism sector has accelerated its digital transformation, focusing on a smart, sustainable and competitive tourism model.

The Southeast Asian country is integrating in the tourism industry advanced technologies like AI, chatbots, and digital platforms to enhance the visitor experience and promote smart tourism. Key initiatives include the national “Vietnam Travel” application which integrates information, flight reservations, hotels, online payments, and even a reporting channel for the authorities.

Other initiatives include the use of artificial intelligence for personalized recommendations and 360 - virtual tours, and online platforms like Google Arts & Culture to showcase cultural heritage.

All these efforts are part of a broader digital transformation strategy to boost tourism growth, attract high - spending tourists, promoting sustainable and eco - tourism, showcasing the varied and diversified offerings and to establish Vietnam as a a leader in the use of modern technology and to establish itself as a leading destination in the region.
