Marriott International, American multinational hospitality company expanded its portfolio in East Asia with the future opening of an AC Hotel by Marriott in Ulaanbaatar, the capital and most populous city of Mongolia, located in the Tuul River valley, bordering the Bogd Khan Uul National Park, originally a nomadic Buddhist centre that became a permanent site in the 18th century, a sprawling industrial centre of pulsating commerce, vibrant atmosphere, lively nightlife and bohemian counterculture.
This development marks Marriott International’s first entry in the Mongolian market and is part of a signed agreement with HTL Gateway LLC, a local developer company founded in 1999 operating public hotels and motels, a collaboration that aligns with the Mongolian government’s initiative to boost the tourism sector and expand the country’s presence in international markets.
The hotel expected to open in 2027 is anticipated to contribute to the evolving hospitality landscape in the city which shows strong recent growth, with significant increases in revenue and visitor numbers reported in 2024.
The property will be located in the Khan Uul District located at the foot of one the four hills of the city, the Bogd Uul in the southern side of Ulaanbaatar, a rapidly expanding area of the Mongolian capital strategically positioned along Buyant - Ukhaa Road providing concenient access to the lively Sukhbaatar Square, the Central Business District, and Chinggis Khaan International Airport.
The location is surrounded by infrastructure and key attractions, including the Buyant Ukhaa Sport Palace, AIC Steppe Arena, and a new commercial and residential hub in Yaarmag.
The hotel will feature 190 comfortable rooms and suites, an all - day dining restaurant, a specialty restaurnat, a grab - and - go AC Store, and a lounge and bar.
Additional amenities will include a fitness centre, a spa, an AC Library, a heated swimming pool, and for meeting and events, the property will provide flexible facilities, including a junior ballroom, function rooms, and breakout spaces.
The hotel will enter into the AC Hotels brand that features sleek, purposeful design, emphasizing open spaces and intuitive layouts to promote relaxation and collaboration. The brand’s focus on modern aesthetics including curated art, creates a sophisticated and seamless experience, epitomized by its “Perfectly Precise Hotel™” concept.
This future opening by Marriott International reflects the strategy to expand its presence in East Asia, and the company aims to cater to both business and leisure travellers by offering accommodations in key locations across the Asia - Pacific region with a high potential, like Mongolia, which welcomed over 800.000 international visitors in 2024, cosolidating itself as an emerging and significant destination for both business and leisure.
