Panama City, Panama | Expanding its Air Connectivity, Consolidating itself as a Leading Regional Hub

Panama City, the capital and largest city of Panama, located at the Pacific entrance of the iconic Panama Canal, a modern metropolis with a blend of historic and contemporary architecture, boasting a vibrant nightlife and a rich cultural scene is consolidating itself as a leading regional hub by expanding its air connectivity, particularly through Copa Airlines, the flag carrier of Panama, a subsidiary of Copa Holdings and member of Star Alliance.

The capital of the Central American country continues to strengthen its position and consolidating its leadership as a relevant regional hub efficiently connecting the Americas with Europe and recently adding new routes to the European continent and Canada.

Air Europa, the third - largest Spanish airline after Iberia and Vueling,  increased frequencies from Madrid, since the end of June the air company incremented its route between the capital of Spain and Panama City to seven weekly flights. This new daily frequency responds to the growing demand between Europe and the region, exceeding 220.000 seats available in 2025.

The flights are carried out in modern Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, renowned for their efficiency and comfort. This route is projected to reach more than 192.000 passengers by 2025, strengthening Panama City and Tocumen Internartional Airport as an essential bridge between Latin America and the Europe.

WestJet, the second - largest airline in Canada after Air Canada and the eighth - largest airline in North America based on flight frequency announced a new direct seasonal route between Calgary, relevant Canadian city in the province of Alberta and Panama City, which will operate from 13th December 2025 to 25th April 2026, with four weekly flights. Tickets are already available since 14th July on its website and authorized agencies.

With this new connection, Canadian travellers will be able to escape winter and enjoy the tropical climate of Panama, a unique destination that offers a rich culture, biodiversity, stunning beaches, rainforests, a relevant culinary offer, and authentic experiences including the iconic Panama Canal, declared UNESCO World Heritage Site, indigenous community and the bustling Panama City designated a Creative City of Gastronomy by UNESCO, also well known for its numerous attractions and a very vibrant nightlife.

These new routes are the result of a joint strategy between the Panama Tourism Authority, PROMTUR Panama, the marketing organization that promote the country as an international destination, and key partners, focused on improving international connectivity and positioning Panama as a competitive and diverse destination in the global market. 

Each new direct flight reinforces Panama City as a strategic destination for international tourism, business and global events and as a consolidated regional hub, facilitating access to a compact, accessible country full of exciting surprises and offering unique unforgettable experiences.
