Brazil's Ministry of Tourism with an investment package of R$90.4 million aims at boosting the tourism sector in the state of Pará, located in Northern Brazil, traversed by the lower Amazon River, site of Amazonia National Park, protecting a vast swath of the dense, lush Amazon Rainforest, home of a rich biodiversity and thousands of wildlife species,a land also highlighted by pristine beaches on the Atlantic Ocean and fertile plains in the interior.
This government initiative with this millionaire investment is part of the "Tourism in Action - Pará Edition" project and seeks to consolidate the state as one of the main tourist destinations in the country, betting on sustainability, inclusion and strengthening of the local economy.
Pará is a state which offers diverse tourism experiences, with a focus on nature and culture, recent reports indicate a 5% increase in international tourist arrivals in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024 according to the UN Tourism Elibrary, an online service from the World Tourism Organization with a broad coverage of tourism and related subject areas.
Pará's Amazonias environment is a major draw, with opportunities for ecotours, wildlife viewing, and river cruises. The state's indigenous culture, historical sites, and vibrant markets offer unique experiences and activities like 4WD tours, hiking and exploring the Amazon River are popular.
During a ceremony held in the Sudam, the auditorium of the Suoperintendence of Development of the Amazon, in Belém, capital and largest city of the state of Pará, the Minister of Tourism of Brazil Celso Sabino officially presented the set of strategic actions. The event was attended by authorities, representatives of the tourism sector, parliamentarians and community leaders.
The Minister stressed that the moment is historic for tourism in Pará, he underscored the cultural, environmental and historical potential of the state, and assured that the new measures represent a commitment of the federal government to the inclusive and sustainable development of tourism in the Amazon region.
On of the main points highlighterd during the event was the allocation of R$73.1 million to tourism infrastructure projects. The works aims to improve the state's reception capacity, providing more quality, comfort and safety to national and international visitors.
Part of the millionaire investment, R$17.3 million will be allocated to support cultural, traditional, religious and agricultural events in more than 20 municipalities. These initiatives not only boost tourism but also aim to strengthen the local identity and boost the economy of the host communities.
As part of the agenda, the minister signed Ordinance No. 19 of the Ministry of Tourism, which nodifies the regulations of Fungetur, the General Tourism Fund. From now on, operations financed with these resources must comply with the Brazilian Law of Inclusion, guaranteeing accessible tourism for people with disabilities.
The package also includes tourist signage in the city of Belém, with an investment of R$4.7 million. 670 informative signs will be installed that will facilitate the circulation and orientation of visitors through the capital of the state, improving the tourist experience from the moment they arrive.
In addition within the framework of the event, the new Guide to Afrotourism in Brazil, prepared together with UNESCO, was presented. The material recognized the value of Afro - Brazilian cultural heritage and promotes routes such as the Terreiro de Mãe Herondina and the Laranjituba Territory and Africa Quilombola, both located in Pará.
The Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Racial Equality, Roberta Eugênio, participated in the event and highlighted the importance of the guide as a tool for cultural appreciation and empowerement for Afro – descendant communities.
With these actions, the federal government seeks to position Pará as a benchmark for sustainable, accessible and culturally diverse tourism, opening new opportunities for regional development and strengthening the Amazon region as a global tourism tourist destination.
