Portugal is attracting a growing number of digital nomads, good connectivity, affordable, an appealing climate, scenic landscapes, vibrant culture, affordable living costs relative to other Western European countries, a strong digital infrastructure and a favorable legal framework have reinforced the country’s position as a destination of choice for remote workers.
Initiatives like the D8 visa specifically designed for digital nomads, offering a pathway to residency and potentially citizenship are highly valued, and more than 16.000 remote workers already reside in the capital of the country, Lisbon alone according to Nomad List 2023, and in the same year around 2.500 D8 visas were issued.
Cities such as Lisbon and Porto are popular, but there’s also a growing trend of digital nomads in search of more accessible and sustainable life, moving to more affordable, nature - focused inland regions driving new models of regenerative rural living, creating a “digital rural exodus”.
The country boasts a reliable, high - speed internet infrastructure, especially in major cities, and offers coworking spaces within cafes and hotels to accommodate remote workers. In addition Portugal has a friendly atmosphere and an established community of expats and digital nomads, making it easy for newcomers to connect with like – minded individuals.
A technology entrepreneur, Samuel Delesque co - founder of Traditional Dream Factory (TDF), a pioneering regenerative project in Europe, located in Abela, in the municipality of Santiago de Cacém in the Alentejo region said that living in harmony with nature can be as practical as it is inspiring and the growing interest in natural environments reflects the value that many remote workers seek : sustainability, a sense of community, metal well – being and connection with nature.
Conceived as a technological and collaborative ecovillage, TDF represents this new trend of digital nomadism, spaces where it is possible to work remotely with good connectivity, but also to be part of a community aligned with values of respect for the environment, regeneration and creativity.
In this new map for digital nomads TDF emerges as one of the most innovative proposals at European level. Installed on the grounds of a former poultry unit, this technological and regenerative ecovillage, conceived by an international community of entreprenurs, creative and sustainability experts, has been transformed into a vibrant coliving and coworking space in the middle of nature and here a decentralized, regenerative and culturally active lifestyle is promoted.
With an already operational infrastructure that includes caravan areas, glamping accommodation, sauna, cafeteria, artistic workshops, and well - connected workspaces, Traditional Dream Factory has already received more than 3.000 international visitors. In addition, the company is developing a cohousing community and new facilities, such as private suites, wooden homes, a biological pool and studios for resident artists.
