A new nature guide training school has opened in KwaZulu – Natal, a coastal South Africa province in the southeast of the country, known for its beautiful beaches on the Indian Ocean, mountains and savannah populated by big game, aiming to expand conservation - focused tourism careers for local youth.
Launched by the Isibindi Foundation, an organization that created a model for sustainable tourism that uplifts communities, protect wildlife, and connects guests to the soul of Zululand in partnership with Infiniti Insurance, and Rhino Ridge Safari Lodge, part of the network of Isibindi Africa Lodges. The Nature Guide Training Programme will offer local youth the opportunity to achieve the FGASA - accredited Nature Site Guide NQF2 qualification.
This foundational South African professional school for aspiring nature guides has a programme covering subjects like ecology, animal behaviour, navigation, conservation, and plant identification, providing essential knowledge and practical skills for working professionally in natural environments.
This title issued by the Field Guides Association of Southern Africa, and CATHSSETA, the Sector Education and Training Authority that accredits this qualification involves rigorous theoretical and practical training, often in wilderness setting to prepare candidates for careers in the wildlife industry.
The initiative targets young people from communities bordering Hluhluwe - iMfolozi Park and iSimangaliso Wetland Park, recognized by FGASA, official institution known for its role in building local capacity and fostering links between communities, conservation areas, and the tourism sector.
