Namibia | Gondwana Collection Namibia and Police Tourism Protection Unit Join Force to Strengthen Tourist Safety in the Country

Gondwana Collection Namibia, a hospitality and tourism company headquartered in the Namibian capital, Windhoek that offers a diverse portfolio of sustainably lodges, hotels, and campsite across the country specializing in unique, nature - focused experiences, join force with the Namibian Police’s Tourism Protection Unit established to proactively support Namibia’s tourism industry, through dedicated enforcement engagement, to bolster visitor safety at the point of arrival in the country.

Focusing on strengthening security measures, information sharing, and proactive protection for tourists, this collaboration, highlighted in March 2026, aims to secure tourist routes and support sustainable tourism amidst rising safety priorities.

Chief Inspector Christina van -Dunem da Fonsech, who heads the newly established Police’s Tourism Protection Unit, visited Gondwana’s Namibia2Go car rental depot at Hosea Kutako International Airport to explore how tourism operatorts and law enforcement can work together to deliver practical safety guidance to arriving travellers.

Central to the initiative is the “Gondwana Traveller Passport”, a compact booklet covering road awareness, personal safety and general travel tips, which the Chief Inspector has began distributing directly to visitors at the airport.

Beyond the airport, the Namibian Police’s Tourism Protection Unit conducts regular patrols in and around Windhoek, including evening drives, and officers assist tourist with directions and safe passage where needed.

Discussion are also underway regarding the potential establishment of accessible tourism protection offices where travellers can seek assistance during their stay.

The initiative reflects a broader industry recognition that visitor safety is a shared responsibility among authorities, operators and local communities, and forms part of ongoing efforts to elevate Namibia as a leading, safe African destination.
