Ouigo starts operating between Madrid and Murcia

 

Ouigo España, open - access operator of high - speed railway services in Spain, a subsidiary of SNCF Voyageurs, the French national railway company increases its services in the Iberian Peninsula with the start of operations connecting the capital Madrid to Murcia, beautiful city in the south-west of Spain that boasts a remarkable historical and cultural heritage located on the banks of the Segura River and 46 kilometers from the Mediterranean.

Commercial operations on this line will feature the terminals of the Madrid station of Chamartin, a railway hub located in the Castellana area, the major interchange from which local, long distance and international trains operate, and Estación Murcia del Carmen, railway station located in the square of the same name in the heart of the city.

The two Spanish cities are connected in less than three hours and double-decker trains can carry up to 2,000 passengers a day.

The timetable is completed with two other services that depart from Madrid at 4.15 p.m. with arrival in Murcia at 7.03 p.m. and vice versa with departure from Murcia station at 8.39 p.m. and arrival in Madrid – Chamartin at 11.23 p.m.

The General Manager of Ouigo Helène Valenzuela pointed out that the company's plans are focused on reaching about 14.000 passengers per week on this line, if all available places are filled and based on the results of ticket sale recorded in the first few weeks.
