Tropicana Las Vegas Hotel & Casino – The end of a myth

Tropicana Las Vegas Hotel & Casino – The end of a myth

The famous and glamorous Tropicana Las Vegas, hotel & resort closed its doors on April 2nd, the end of a myth for one of the icons of the famous city of Nevada and beyond which hosted the longest-running cabaret in the entire Sun City and the luxurious furnishings that bewitched at first sight.

After 67 years, exactly two days before the anniversary of its opening and inauguration on April 4, 1957, this hotel & casino of great appeal and appeal will be demolished and replaced by the new Major League Baseball stadium.

Property of Bally's Corporation, established on land leased by Gaming and Leisure Properties, the Tropicana was conceived by Ben Jaffe who was then the co-owner of the famous Fointanbleu Hotel located in Miami Beach, with 30 investors which also included the famous singer Morton Downey who owned a share equal to 5%.

The Architect Tony Sherman was the one who planned the design and construction of the Tropicana Hotel & Resort while the Taylor Construction Company was the group that directed the operations to establish something special to raise the grandeur of Las Vegas throughout the entire USA and all around the world.

Located at the street address 3801 South Las Vegas Boulevard, nicknamed "Tiffany of the Strip" the Tropicana was considered as the most expensive resort, the approximate figure was around 15 million dollars.

The construction was developed on three floors and over 300 rooms . In today's times, the Tropicana has reached a total of 1658 rooms on a surface area of approximately 4600 square meters and 9300 square meters dedicated to hosting exhibitions, conventions and events of various types.

Tropicana immediately gained fame, success and celebrity, attracting the attention of the press, gossip, people of varied personalities, viveurs and much more. Resort closely linked to the advent of "Sin City" in its very rapid progression, for its eclectic way of being and always capable of reinventing itself.

Rising as one of the symbols of the Las Vegas Strip, Tropicana disappears, will no longer exist, the arrival of other large resorts have overshadowed this iconic hotel and the old property has no longer been able to stand out.

Glamour, celebrity, luxury, gambling and even crime have been protagonists for over six decades within it, many moments will certainly be remembered when Errol Garner, Al Hirt, Benny Goodman or Louis Armstrong performed in its halls cheering with their music the nights of Las Vegas.

The memories will remain, certainly indelible of magical evenings under the infinite lights that dazzled the city of Nevada. The Tropicana also symbolizes one of the very famous scenes of James Bond, when Sean Connery in his sixth edition as the protagonist in "Diamonds for ever" met his great rival and enemy Blofeld at the top of the resort so that even the cinema industry is particularly linked to this famous, defunct hotel.

Certainly this event has shaken the world of tourism, the hotel sector and the public in general, what will certainly remain in the minds will be a memory of an iconic resort that has made history in its own way.
