While the first has established itself as an international benchmark for its unique cultural atmosphere the second is a living testimony of the mining wealth and viceregal art and that forged the identity of the Bajio, geographical, historical, cultural and economic region in western Mexico.

Both cities are part of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro which was the Royal Inland Road, also known as the Silver Route, a cultural itinerary that reaffirms the importance of Guanajuato in the global context.

During the session, significant advances were presented in the conservation, rescue and promotion of these two World Heritage Sites by UNESCO, considered essential engines for the cultural and tourist development of the country.
