Scandic Hotels | Portfolio Expansion in Germany with a New Hotel in Downton Berlin

Scandic Hotels, a Swedish hotel chain headquartered in Stockholm, founded in 1963 as Esso Motor Hotel with its main operations in the Nordic countries, pioneer within sustainability with the majority of its hotels certified with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel requirement, expands its portfolio in Germany with a new hotel in Berlin downtown.

The German capital is a crucial market for the Scandinavian hospitality company due to its high demand for accommodation hosting several major trade fairs, congresses, conferences, meetings and cultural events attracting corporate and leisure guests coming from all around the world.

The new establishment which is currently vacant, will be renovated to meet Scandic Hotels' brand and operational standards and it is a agreement with AXA Investment Managers, a global investment management firm that operates as the investment arm for Axa, an insurance and reinsurance company based in Puteaux, commune and western suburb of Paris, France.

The hotel is expected to open in the third quarter of 2026, during its renovation, investments will be made in technical and sustainability - related aspects and the Nordic Swan Ecolabel will be used to environmentally certify the establishment.

The 214 - room hotel is situated near Kurfürstendamm, usually referred to as Ku'damm, one of the most famous avenues in Berlin, a 3.5 kilometres long boulevard lined with restaurants, shops, fashion boutiques, hotels, renowned theatres and leading office complexes located in the Charlottenburg district between Breitscheidplatz and Halensee around 2.5 kilometres from Adenaerplatz.

Once opem the hotel will offer an attractive restaurant, beverage services, a fitness centre with a sauna, meeting facilities and its proximity to public transport will add to its appeal to travellers.

Scandic Hotels after this Berlin hotel opening will operate nine hotels throughout Germany, offering 2.849 rooms.

Scandic Hotels' CEO Jens Mathiesen stated that the partnership with AXA Investment Managers would boost the company's growth in the German market and the hotel will be the Scandic's third in Berlin, bringing the company's total number of rooms in the German capital to 992.

The Senior Vice President of Portfolio Development at Scandic Hotels, Jesper Engman said that this move aligns with Scandic's expansion strategy and ambition to seize growth opportunities in key markets and the goal is to become one of West Berlin's top choices for business and leisure travellers and build successful long-term partnerships.
