Canneto Pavese is a small and pleasant municipality in the province of Pavia situated between the Scuropasso and Versa valleys close to the well-known towns of Broni and Stradella.

Situated in a land that boasts evocative landscapes producing superb Oltrepo' Pavese wines, delights for fine palates as well as Canneto Pavese lies in a historic geographical area rich of artistic and gastronomic traditions.

The scenic beauty of this small municipality, part of the Prima Collina community with the nearby towns of Castana and Montescano is is absolutely delightful at first sight.

Extended rows of vineyards nestling on gentle hills alternate as if by magic with wooded areas and green flat basins, forming an attractive and poetic set that has frequently inspired painters but also very passionate photographers.

Of high interest is the Parish Church dedicated to Saints Marcellinus and Erasmus, an ecclesiastical building highlighted by typical late-medieval architectural lines and an imposing bell tower at its side.

Along Via della Chiesa as in a fairytale picture you can admire agricultural farmhouses and rural houses built in different periods standing next to sinuous green slopes covered by a multitude of vineyards that surround the entire centre of the town.

Canneto Pavese is famous for the excellent wines of Oltrepo' Pavese a tradition that has established itself as one of the main activities since centuries ago, handed down from generation to generation rising as the fulcrum of the local economy.

Canneto, Sangue di Giuda, Buttafuoco, Barbera, Pinot Noir, Bonarda, a type of excellent Riesling, very sweet Freisa and Moscato are part of the great list of wines this land offers.

If you visit a local wine farm you can see the spaces for the harvest,the areas dedicated to the selection and storage of the red and white grapes, discovering information regarding the cycles of production, aging, classification procedures, cellar operations at ideal temperatures knowing furthermore some statistics regarding the sale and markets conquered in Italy and abroad by these top wines.

Culinary uses will be further recommended, the wines of Canneto Pavese are very versatile, excellent for the preparation of risottos, grilled and stewed meats, roasts, game and for the creation of a delicious salmi.

If you want to enjoy a typical lunch enjoying delicious local products very suggested are Varzi Salami, Mortara goose liver Mortadella, cooked ham, Oltrepo' red wine Risotto, Sheep's ricotta Tortelli, baked pork shank with cabbage or lamb chops with almonds.
