UNESCO | The New 24 World Heritage Sites

 


The 46th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in New Delhi, India, announced the list and number of new World Heritage sites with 24 additions in the current year.

The list of World Heritage Sites of the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture includes more than 1,220 natural, historical and cultural sites in the world which from these ecosystems of critical importance have such architectural marvels that are not found in any other places of the planet.

According to the organization, its goal is :  promoting the identification, protection and conservation of cultural and natural heritage throughout the world considered to be of exceptional value to the humanity. All this is enshrined in an international treaty called the Convention on the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage adopted by UNESCO in 1972.

The 24 new World Heritage sites include 19 cultural sites, 4 natural sites and one mixed cultural and natural site.

·       Brâncuși Monumental Complex of Târgu Jiu – Romania

·       Cultural landscape of Lake Kenozero – Russian Federation

·       Borders of the Roman Empire – Dacia – Romania

·        Hegmataneh – Ira

·         Nelson Mandela Legacy Sites - South Africa

 ·        Melka Kunture and Balchit-  archaeological and paleontological sites - Ethiopia

 ·        Moidam, Ahom Dynasty Burial System - India

 ·        Phu Phrabat, testimony of the Sīma stone - Thailand

 ·        Royal Court of Tiébélé -  Burkina Faso

 ·         Gold Mining on Sado Island - Japan

 ·        Monastery of St. Hilarion / Tell um Amer -  Palestine

 ·        Residential complex Schwerin -  Germany

 ·        Archaeological heritage of caves in Niah National Park - Malaysia 

·         Cultural landscape of the archaeological zone of Al – Faw – Saudi Arabi

 ·        Pleistocene Occupation Sites -  South Africa

 ·        Historic city and archaeological site of Gedi - Keny

 ·        Um Al Jimāl -  Jordan  

·        Appian Way - Italy 

                    ·        Badain Jaran Desert -  China

                    ·        Sand towers and lakes -  China
