Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, sits off the mainland on an island in the Persian Gulf where ancient heritage meets modern marvels, boasting stunning, cultural landmarks, splendid shorelines and exciting theme parks has reached a remarkable milestone by becoming the 6th DMO, Destination Management Organization in the world, and the first in the Middle East,to obtain the prestigious UN QUEST certification for tourism achievements.

DCT – Abu Dhabi, the Department of Culture and Tourism passed a rigorous assessment to obtain this prestigious certification with exceptional results in three key areas a success which was achieved after more than 120 hours of customized training delivered by the United Nations Tourism Academy.

The training covered essential and vital topics such as governance for sustainable tourism sustainable tourism, quality and competitiveness and, best practices for sustainable destination management and furthermore to the breakout sessions.

In addition,  DCT – Abu Dhabi leaders participated in eight individual workshops, which allowed them to delve into the details of the UN Tourism QUEST evaluation criteria.

The success to receive the UN QUEST certification is not only a technical achievement for Abu Dhabi, but it also represents a true commitment to leading the way in global tourism management.

UN QUEST certification focuses on setting high standards in destination governance, emphasizing the power of collaboration between governments, the private sectors, and local communities.

This achievement reflects the importance of building a tourism ecosystem that is not only economically dynamic, but also socially inclusive and environmentally sustainable, a certification valid for four years and the option of renewal and Abu Dhabi is setting a clear path for continuous improvement in tourism management and sustanaibility.
