Germany, western European country with a varied landscape of forests, rivers, mountain ranges and North Sea beaches, described as an international great power with the largest economy in Europe by nominal GDP, a global leader in industrial, scientific and technological sectors is experiencing a great momentum in tourism and Destasis, the Federal Statistic Office responsible for collecting, processing, presenting and analysing statistical information concerning the topics economy, society and environment, reported a new statistical record for tourism in the country last year.
The data reflects that in 2024, 496.1 million overnight stays were made in hotels and other establishments with at least ten beds and this figure represent an increase of 1.9% more than in 2023 and 0.1% above the record year of 2019.
With a total of 85.3 million overnight stays, the proportion of guests from abroad increased from 16.6% in 2023 to 17.2% although it could not reach the pre – pandemic level of 18.1%.
Despite the stagnant economy, tourism has managed to make progress on the collapse occurred during the pandemic and the data provided by Destasis confirm an excellent recovery of the country.
Germany's tourism industry is expected to grow in 2025, with increased revenue and demand for popular destinations, new strategic plans, initiatives and promotion abroad were launched by the German Tourism Board including a large proposal in different segments and tourism in the country is expected to continue growing this year with 91 million overnight stays due to increased demand for international travellers, sustainable tourism and eco - friendly travel.
