Mexico | Tourism Industry Confirms a Strong Dynamism and Growth Contributing Significantly to the Country's Economy

The Mexican tourism industry continues today to show good signs confirming a strong dynamism and growth contributiong significantly to the country economy, generating a substantial portion of the country' GDP and providing millions of jobs, including both formal and informal employment.

While the sector has faced challenges, including those related to competitiveness and sustainability, the tourism sector continues to be a key driver of economic development.

Mexico’s tourism sector is experiencing robust growth, surpassing pre - pandemic levels and setting new records. In 2024 international tourism revenue reached $32.96 billion, a 7.4% increase year - over - year, with a total of  45.380.754 international tourists, according to data provided by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography.

The Latin American country currently ranks sixth in the world in terms of tourist arrivals, a reality that the administration of President Claudia Sheimbaum seeks to overcome even more by placing the country in fifth position in the ranking.

After a vacation period with a spillover from tourist consumption amounting to 144.948 million pesos, about $7.300 million, the Secretary of Tourism, Josefina Rodriguez Zamora, celebrated that the Holy Week exceeded all expectations, since from 12th to 20th April 2025 the aforementioned amount was registered, which represents an increase of 5.4% compared to 2024.

According to the Ministry of Tourism hotel occupancy accounted for an influx of 67.7%, 3.2% more than the same period of the previous year, and 3.430.000 tourists arrived in hotel rooms, of which 73.1% were national and 26.9% international.

The Secretary of Tourism reiterated her commitment to continue promoting Meixco and its greatness, as well as to continue making tourism a generator of shared prosperity, whose benefits reach all members of the production chain, with emphasis on resident communities.

With this high performances confirming the strong dynamism of the tourism sector was specifically highlighted the southern state of Guerrero that thanks to guaranteed security and a renewned infrastructure, the entity reached an average hotel occupancy of 94.7%, also thanks to a coordinated work between the three levels of government.
