Wilderness, a leading conservation hospitality company and luxury safari operating in 8 African countries with over 60 camps providing exclusive, private wild game viewing, unrivalled style, comfort and a range of activities for a full immersion in nature and local culture will expand its East African portfolio by taking over two properties in Kenya's Maasai Mara.
The two established Governor's Collection properties are set to relaunch in 2026 and they are located in the Mara Triangle in the southwestern portion of the Masaai Mara National Reserve managed by the not for - profit organisation The Mara Conservancy on behalf of Trans - Mara County Council.
Mara Triangle is well known for its effective conservation model, strict anti – poaching measures and sustainable tourism practices. It hosts abundant wildlife including lion prides, black rhino, elephants, and it offers the unique opportunity to see the annual wildebeest migration.
Wilderness will open Wilderness Mara Villas, formerly Governors's Private Camp, in February 2026. This exclusive - use property, accurately designed for travellers seeking privacy and personalized safari experiences will open its doors on a secluded bend of the Mara River offering an authentic and unique experience in the Mara Triangle Area.
Wilderness Mara, formerly Little Governor's Camp is the second property and will welcome guests in mid - 2026 after a complete rebuild. It will be located at the base of the Oloololo Escarpment, a geological feature forming the western boundary of the Mara Triangle, consisting of a 400 - metre high cliff, part of a granite plateau, that offers stunning views of the Mara plains.
The camp will feature 12 tented suites positioned along a seasonal marsh, each equipped with freestanding bathtubs, outdoor showers and private viewing decks. Amenities include a spa, gym and in - camp photographic studio.
Its strategic location provides access to both sides of the Mara River, enabling guests to witness the Great Migration river crossing while enjoying smaller crowds than in other parts of the reserve.
Both properties will operate under Wilderness's Impact framework, focusing on education empowerment and protection, while continuing the conservation and community initiatives established by the Governor's Camp Collection.
Additional experiences will include cultural visits to nearby Masai communities and optional air balloon safaris operated by Governors' Baloon Safaris.
