Club Med SAS | Set to Expand its Global Presence with New Resort Projects in South Africa and Malaysia

Club Med SAS, commonly known as Club Med and previously named Club Méditerranée SA, a French travel and tourism operator founded in 1950 headquartred in Paris, specializing in all inclusive holidays, set to expand its global presence with new resorts in South Africa and Malaysia, as well as significant renovations at its Punta Cana resort in the Dominican Republic and with the aim to strengthen its presence across Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, and the Caribbean. 

The Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari Resort, South Africa - Club Med will establish its first resort on the Indian Ocean coast in KwaZulu - Natal, a coastal South Africa province in the southeast of the country, known for its beautiful beaches, mountains and savannah populated by big game. 

The resort expected to open in July 2026 will be located along KwaZulu north coast also known as the Dolphin Coast, due to frequent sightings of bottlenose dolphins who ride the waves of the Indian Ocean in large frolicking schools. This enviable strip of coastline stretches from the Tongaat River at Zimbali to Zinkwazi Beach and the Tugela River mouth in the north, including the inland areas of Umhlali and Shakaskraal, 30 minutes from King Shaka International airport and 45 minutes from Durban

The establishment will feature 411 rooms, including 310 Superior Rooms, 35 Deluxe Rooms and 66 private suites in the Exclusive Collection section. The development will include four pools, and various dining options and will feature the brand’s first ever Surf School.The resort is designed with sustainability in mind, targeting Green Globe certification and implementing the “Bye - Bye Plastics” initiative.

New Club Med resort in Malaysia - Club Med plans to launch a new resort in Malaysia, although specific details about this project have not been disclosed. The expansion into the Southeast Asian country is part of Club Med’s strategy top increase its footprint in the Asia - Pacific region. 

Malaysia saw a significant recovery in tourism in 2024, with international visitors arrivals increasing by 24.23% to 25.02 million, a very emergent destination that is showing strong performance also this year. In the first quarter of this year the country welcomed 6.36 million international visitors becoming the most visited country in  Southeast Asia in Q1 2025.

Major renovations at Club Med Punta Cana, the Dominican Republic - Club Med is undertaking major renovations at its Punta Cana resort in the Dominican Republic, set on a stunning beachfront where the Caribbean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean, 3 kilometres from Corales Golf Club and 5 kilometres from the Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park.

The renovations led by GG&Grace International, an award winning design firm founded in 2010 by Gaauthier Guillame based in Dubai, UAE and Cairo, Egypt, known for crafting unique hospitality projects in the world’s top locating creating distinctive and memorable experiences. The operation of restyle include updated to social spaces, culinary experiences, and accommodations. 

The Costa del Coco Deluxe Rooms will feature private balconies and spa - like bathrooms, while the Buena Vista Lounge will offer panoramic views, and El Mundo Food Club will provide a variety of global cuisines. The renovations also emphasize sustainable practices, including eco - constructions and energy – efficient designs.
