Mozambique has announced plans to expand one - stop border crossing with neighbouring Southern African countries as part of broader efforts and a strategy to grow its tourism - related GDP, streamlining travel and enhancing new regional cooperations.
Minister of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs, Mateus Saize, stated that streamlining border procedures would reduce bureaucracy and enhance trade and tourism flows within the Southern African Development Community (SADC), an inter - governmental organization headquartered in Gaborone, Botswana focuses on regional socio - economic cooperation and integration as well as political collaboration among 16 countries in southern Africa.
Speaking during a ceremony which took place in Angónia district, in Tete Province, the Minister emphasized that the initiative is aimed at strengthening regional ties and positioning Mozambique as a more accessible destinations for travellers and also investors.
The government is modernizing and expanding border posts such as Machipanda in Manica District, near the border with Zimbabwe and Cassacatiza in Tete Province, gateway to Zambia, through public - private partnerships. This initiative will increase fluidity for people and goods, enhancing regional integration, and improving logistical competitiveness.
Improved cross - border infrastructure and efficiency are expected to support tourism growth and contribute positively to the national economy, in a country where tourism sector is on path to recovery focusing on simplified visa processes, improvement in infrastructure, growth in hotel stays and air traffic, and initiatives to promote sustainable tourism.
