El Salvador | Country with the Greatest Tourist Growth in Ibero – America

El Salvador, country of Central America, the smallest and most densely populated area of the seven Central American countries bordered by the Pacific Ocean with a rich biodiversity in its interior and an old history linked to the iconic Mayan civilization is the country with the greatest tourist growth, in in Ibero – America as stated by the Executive Director of UN Tourism,  agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism, Natalia Bayona.

In the framework of an informative session with international agencies, the Executive Director of UN Tourism explained that El Salvador managed to recover security and confidence, elements that have been key to the development of Salvadoran tourism.

For the UN Executive Director what is visible today in the Central American country is talent, a lot of dedicated people, passionate about working for tourism in the country, but above all, there is a very clear State policy towards development and towards public - private alliances to ensure that this sector continues to move for a long time.

El Salvador is a country that has a lot to tell, a lot to inspire, as it also positioned itself as the fourth fastest growing country in the world, after Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Albania and for UN Tourism, tourism is the most humane economic sector of all and one of the most resilient.

The Executive Director of UN Tourism added that in order to attract more tourists from different countries, El Salvador can create some routes based on the history, culture and exclusive experiences of the region that include current tourist attractions such as Surf City, located 170 kilometres from San Salvador, in the department of San Miguel, well known for its beach volcanic black sand,  an area which offers a great collection of archaeology and historical sites, exceptional landscapes ans a delicious gastronomy offer.

According to UN Tourism figures El Salvador received 40.4% more tourists in 2023 than in 2019, data which confirm the remarkable recovery of tourism in El Salvador that has brought with it an increase in 2023, of more than 300% in FDI, Foreign Direct Investment compared to 2022 and with a 2024 showing excellent achievements confirming a brilliant trayectory in terms of tourism growth of the country.
