IHG Hotels & Resorts | Announced Plans to Open a Holiday Inn & Suites Brand Hotel in Sapporo, Japan

IHG Hotels & Resorts, British multinational hospitality company based in Windsor - Berkshire, England, UK has announced plans to open a Holiday Inn & Suites in Sapporo, capital of the mountainous northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, well known for winter sports, particularly skiing, stunning landscapes, its renowned beer and a rich culinary scene with protagonists the famous soup curry and miso ramen. 

Holiday Inn & Suites Sapporo Odori Park expected to open in late 2025 and its development is the result of the second partnership of IHG Hotels and Resorts with Minami Ninjo Operations, a World Brands Collection Hotels & Resorts subsidiary.

The property will be owned by a fund managed by Goldman Sachs, American multinational investment bank and financial service company headquartered in New York. 

This new addition will join over 1.200 Holiday Inn Hotels and resorts worldwide, including eight others in Japan, a very performing mid - scale brand offering comfortable stays, with a focus on offering great value for guests providing a balance of comfort and affordability.

The hotel is situated in Sapporo, a thriving centre highlighted all year round by several events, well known for its annual Sapporo Snow Festival, in a region which saw a great surge in popularity among international travellers, with a 40% increase in 2024 compared to the pre - pandemic period and in addition with a notable improvement concerning air connectivity,  with international weekly flights surpassed 2019 levels for the first time during Q1 2025.

The property located at the end of the renowned Tanukikoji Shopping Street in the lively downtown area of Sususkino, Sapporo largest entertainment district, known for its vibrant nightlife, numerous bars and restaurants, within walking distance from Odori Park, a renowned venue hosting several events, a prrime location will offer an easy access to the major attractions of the city.

The 195 - room Holiday Inn & Suites Sapporto Odori Park is slated to open in late 2025, following a comprehensive refurbishment of an existing property, a renovation that will include upgrading all rooms, creating a new lobby café following Holiday Inn's Open Lobby concept, adding a gym and developing a design - led flexible space where guests can socialize and relax.

In addition to standard rooms, the hotel will feature suites and a range of facilities, including a restaurant, meeting spaces and a public bath on the hotel's upper floor.

IHG Hotels & Resorts currently operates five hotels in Hokkaido across three brands sich as Crown Plaza, Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts and Vignette Collection and the British hospitality group anticipates the debut of the InterContinental upscale brand in the area later this year with the opening of InterContinental Sapporo, boasting now in Japan, 52 hotels across 10 brands,  with 14 more hotels in pipeline.
