Cape Town, South Africa | Iconic Green Point Flea Market Reopens After 15 - Years Closure

Cape Town, vibrant city on South Africa's southwest coast, located on a peninsula on the shores of Table Bay, known for its harbour, its natural setting in the Cape Floristic Region and for stunning landmarks like Cape Point and Table Mountain will experience the reopening of the iconic Green Point Flea Market after 15 – year closure.

Green Point Flea Market is set to reopen on Sunday 11th May 2025 making a significant revival for over 200 informal traders, in Green Point, an affuent suburb on the Atlantic Seaboard of the city located to the north west of the central business district, dominated by its namesake park, with jogging trails, a hedge maze and a biodiversity garden planted with indigenous flora, and home to Cape Town Stadium, a major sporting venue that was built for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

This attractive neighborhood is also highlighted by the captivating Sea Point promenade connecting it to Three Anchor Bay and Sea Point, a popular Jewish neighborhood and the bustling Somerset Road, the main thoroughfare lined by stylish cafes, fine restaurants and trendy nightclubs.

The market located at Corner Beach Road and Western Boulevard, previously a very popular Sunday destination for both locals and tourists was shut in 2009 to accommodate the construction of the Stadium, and it will now operate every Sunday from 08:00 to 18:00, except on major event days at the stadium.

The initiative provides a renewed trading platform for long - time stallholders and welcomes new vendors keen to join and intended as a multicultural celebration of Cape Town's informal trading culture, offering a space for traders, crafters and cooks.

The market's return is seen as a boost for informal trading and local entrepreneurship, offering a range of products from Cape Malay cuisine to hand - crafted goods made by local artisans.

Organisers hope renewed community and tourist interest will help re - establish the market in a regular feature in the city's cultural calendar.
