The Philippines | Introducing Digital Nomad Visas to Boost its Tourism Sector

The Philippines, archipelagic country in Southeast Asia in the western Pacific Ocean consisting of more than 7000 islands and islets is poised to attract more international remote workers and boost its tourism sector with the introduction of DNVs, the Digital Nomad Visa following the signing of Executive Order No. 86 by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on 24th April 2025.

These visas are intended for foreign nationals who wish to enter and stay in the country temporarily to work remotely using digital technologies, with clients or employers based outside the Philippines. 

This initiative will allow qualified international workers to stay in the Philippines for up to a year, which favours longer stays and expenses, especially during the low season.

The introduction of the Digital Nomad Visa program is a strategic move to position the Philippines as a competitive destination for the rapidly growing global community of remote workers, reflecting the government commitment to modernizing the tourism sector, while popular destination such as Boracay, Cebu, and Siargao will benefit from the influx of remote workers looking for a working experiences in these attractive locations.

The establishment of a clear regulatory structure helps ensure that digital nomads can legally reside and work in the country while maintaining compliance with immigration laws.

Concerning this point by offering a legal avenue for extended stays, the Digital Nomad Visa reduces the risk of penalties or including deportation for unauthorized work and supports manage visa over - stays through proper registration and monitoring of foreign nationals.

The Digital Nomad Visa will provide more flexibility for foreign nationals who wish to come to the Asiatic country as digital nomads by giving them an entlitement to reside and work remotely under certain conditions.

The government has created a regulatory framework around the Digital Nomad Visa to facilitate the entry of them for a short period and it aligns with the Philippines government's commitment to promoting tourism, economic development and digital innovation in the country.

Conditions and requirements for foreign nationals applying for a Digital Nomad Visa must meet the following criteria : 


•    Be at least 18 years of age.
•    Provide proof of remote work using digital technology.
•    Show proof of sufficient income generated outside the Philippines.
•    Present a clean criminal record.
•    Have health insurance valid for the Duration of the Digital Nomad Visa.
•    Be a national of a country that offers DNVs to Filipinos and where the Philippines has a FSP, Foreign Service Post.
•    Not pose a threat to the internal or external security of the Philippines.
•    Not be employed within the Philippines.
 

Foreign nationals issued valid Digital Nomad Visa must maintain with these conditions throughout the validity of their visas.
