Meliá Hotels International, Spanish hotel chain founded in 1956 and based in Palma de Mallorca, announced plans to open a new boutique hotel in Lima, capital and largest city of Peru, sprawling metropolis located in the valleys of the Chillón, Rimac and Lurin Rivers, in the desert of the central coastal part of the country, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, a centre which boasts a very rich cultural and historical heritage, highlighted by outstanding colonial and baroque architecture, a vibrant atmosphere, beautiful beaches and well known for its innovative fusion cuisine.
This project marks Meliá Hotels International’s first luxury hotel in Peru, it will join two other hotels of the group in the Peruvian capital such as Meliá Lima and INNSide Miraflores and is part of the company’s broader strategy to expand its presence in Latin America.
The development has received support from PROMPERÚ, the Commission for the promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism, highlighting its potential to enhance tourism in the Peruvian capital and in its historic centre.
The property will be managed by Meliá Hotels International and owned by the Peruvian company Hoteles Bera, a collaboration between the Bernui - Tarazona and Ramos - Bernui families.
The hotel will be part of the Meliá Collection brand, a portfolio of unique, luxury hotels known for their distinctive character, cultural experiences, and personalized service. These hotels, often with a strong sense of place and independent spirit, offer curated experiences, locally inspired design, and high - end amenities.
The project will be located in a site, known historically as “Casa de la Pila” , but in reality is the Almuelle building developed in 1917 where the original “Casa de la Pila” stood, a notable location in the city’ cultural and intellectual history, a,mansion associated with many events, historical figures and characters from Lima’s past and including linked to the early days of the oldest newspaper in Peru, El Comercio founded in 1839.
The building is located in Lima’s historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, inscribed in 1988 for its originality and high concentration of historic monuments constructed during the viceregal era including stunning baroque churches, colonial convents and grand mansions and the hotel will be developed in two phases.
The first phase of the development is scheduled for completion in July 2026 and will include 61 rooms while the second phase, set for July 2027, will expand the hotel to a total of 107 rooms.
The hotel will be situated near significant cultural landmarks of the Peruvian capital, including the Metropolitan Cathedral of Lima, the Government Palace, and the bustling Plaza de Armas Square, a prime location offering an easy access to the major historical sites and attractions of the South American city.
