Yucatán, Mexico | “Verifica y Viaja” : a Campaign to Reinforce Tourist Security in the State

 Yucatán, a state of Mexico locatd in the south – east of the country, in the northern part of the huge peninsula of the same name, known for its iconic Mayan ruins, colonial history, stunning natural wonders and its Gulf of Mexico pristine beaches launched “Verifica y Viaja” (Verify and Travel) , a campaign that seeks to reinforce tourism security in the state through various actions.

With the aim of protecting numerous visitors, during this holiday season, the Mexican state decided to activate this initiative that promotes the safe contracting of tourist services and also prevents digital fraud.

The initiative focuses on providing information and tools to visitor so they can plan their trips safely and responsibly. The verification of accommodation, transport and tourist activities is promoted, as well as access to useful resources and contacts in case of needing assistance.

The strategy promoted by ASETUR, the Association of Tourism Secretaries of Mexico established to improve the conditions of the tourism sector in the country and the Mexican Ministry of Tourism, guides visitors to follow three key steps before making a purchase : 

•    Check reviews from other users
•    Verify the supplier’s registration in the official system 
•    Avoid payments to personal accounts or suspicious links

 Key details of “Verifica y Viaja” campaign : 

•    Information and Resources - The campaign provides tourists with information about the safest and most reliable tourist places, as well as tips to avoid risky situations.
•    Verification of services - Travellers are encouraged to check the reputation and safety of the tourist services they hire, such as hotels, restaurants, tours, and transportation.
•    Communitation channels - Direct communication channels are established so that tourists can report any incident or request assistance in case of emergency.
•    Collaboration with authorities - “Verifica y Viaja”  works closely with local authorities to ensure the safety of tourists and respond effectively to any situation that may arise.
•     Awareness - The initiative seeks to raise awareness among tourists about the importance of taking preventive measures and acting responsibly during their in Yucatán.
