Hanoi, Vietnam | Thriving Tourism with a Sharp Rise in International Arrivals

 Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, a huge metropolis representing the cultural, economic and educational centre of the north of the country located on the western bank of the Red River, known for its centuries - old architecture and a rich culture with Southeast Asian, Chinese and French influences, highlighted by an urban landscape characterized by the presence of numerous lakes, as well as several religious buildings, primarily Confucian and Taoist temples,  Buddhist pagodas, but also Catholic such as St. Joseph Cathedral and a bustling Old Quarter where narrow streets are roughly arranged by trades is experiencing a thriving tourism with sharp rise in international arrivals.

According to the Municipal Department of Tourism the Vietnamese capital welcomed an estimated 3.18 million visitors in August 2025, including 709.000 international tourists, representing increases of 27.5% and 42.6% year - on - year, respectively, according to the municipal Department of Tourism.

Total tourism revenue for the month was projected at around $475.4 million, up 31.5% compared to the same period last year according a report by VNA, a Government news agency which serves as the official information provider of the State.

From January to August 2025, Hanoi received 21.58 million visitors, marking a 13.9% rise from 2024. Of these 4.96 million were international arrivals, a year - on - year increase of 25.8%.

Hanoi tourism success is linked to various factors such as a relevant offering of cultural experiences with key attractions include the Imperial Citadel, the Temple of Literature and the Thang Long Water Puppet, it is a gateway to Northern Vietnam’ s natural beauty, with easy day trips to Halong Bay and Ninh Binh, a vibrant food scene and affordable prices.  

The city is known for its budget - friendly options, from transportation and accommodation to local food, its serene atmosphere around peaceful lakes, and a warm hospitality, making it an ideal destination for culture lovers, foodies and curious travellers alike.

Alongside these brilliant performances the Department’s Director, Dang Huong Giang noted that upcoming initiatives include the completion of a project to innovate the management, preservation and promotion of special national historical and scenic constructions with the aim to increase furthermore the appeal of the destination.
