CONTIKI | BIOFUEL IN ITS MOTORCOACHES IN EUROPE

Contiki, the famous Tour Operator based in New Zealand and with an important headquarter  in Geneva, Switzerland, famous for its over 350 tours offered in all continents of the world, has committed to using biodiesel fuel in its motorcoaches in Europe.

The treated drop-in biofuel is HVO, hydrotreated vegetable oil from vegetable and food waste. It is known that the use of biofuels and especially HVO significantly reduces CO2 emissions.

The new use of this carburant by Contiki for its tours is undoubtedly a huge step forward as according to official scientific data, HVO and it will reduce carbon emission by up to 30-40% in the european continent.

HVO can be mixed with diesel and it is becoming available in a large part of the European continent, in this case there would be no refueling problems and it does not reduce vehicle performance.

The plan developed by Contiki's senior ranks mainly focused on sustainability, the existence of electric buses was also taken into consideration but at the moment with the distances traveled on the Tour Operator's tours it is not a viable option, the HVO use will therefore be the provisional priority.

An HVO tank is already present in Stellendham in the Netherlands, exactly in the square where the Tour Operator buses are parked, a new important and fundamental stage begins for Contiki with a vision towards the future with the reduction of CO2 in the atmosphere.
