Calabria – Italy | The Sila Historic Train is back in operation

The historic train of the Sila, splendid mountainous plateau in the Calabrian interior boasting a wonderful National Park and well known to have the purest air in Europe, is back in operation.

The restoration works entirely financed by the Calabrian railway company have been completed with the reconnection of the ancient Moccone – Camigliatello – San Nicola Silvana Mansio route.

Although the route is only a few tens of kilometers, the landscapes of this Calabrian territory are breathtaking between mountains and valleys of absolute beauty.

The trip is on board wagons designed and built in 1910 by the Carminati and Toselli company pulled by the historic FCL 353 steam locomotive developed in 1926.

This slow journey offers the opportunity to stop  in intermediate stages encouraging a form of tourism that offers the opportunity to discover local traditions and tastings of the delicious Sila gastronomy.

Shortly, further restoration work on the old section should resume to reach San Giovanni in Fiore, a charming town in the province of Cosenza perched on the scenic Monte Difesa.
