Costa Rica, a rainforested, rugged Central American country with coastlines on the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean well known for its biodiversity, stunning beaches, lagoons, volcanoes, rivers, waterfall, wildlife sanctuaries, a more than ideal destination for visitors in search of variety is making use of the great natural wealth in its territory for recreational and scientific purposes by further growing with the Hitoy Ceres Biological Reserve which represents in all its essence an invitation for tourism and research.
This Biological Reserve located to the southwest of the splendid valley Valle de la Estrella, approximately 60 kilometres from Puerto Limón on the Caribbean side of the country between the basins of the rivers La Estrella and Sixaola on the edge of the Cordillera de Talamanca characterised by evergreen forests, varying altitudes were flows rushing rivers, established in 1971 and it is one of the 169 protected wild areas of Costa Rica representing the product of the work between various actors.
According to local sources, most of the reserve's vegetation cover is made up of tropical forests, 99% of which are managed by the state.
The work of Minae, the Ministry of Environment and Energy of Costa Rica, in favor of tourism and research in this protected area responds to the effort of its staff together with that of the Institute of Aqueducts and Sewerage, gastronomic services and the community whose residents have authorized the passage of the aqueduct through their properties.
This decision was also influenced by the improvement of working conditions such as the drinking water service for the staff of the Hitoy Cerere Reserve which is also one of the 14 under the Regional Administration of the La Amistad Caribe Area, and of SINAC, the National System of Conservation Areas, the administrator for the nation's national parks, conservation areas and other protected natural territories.
According to the Ministry of Environment and Energy, this sort of paradise on earth contributes to improving the experience of visiting institutions, scholars, students and tourists.
