On 9th November 1989 the Berlin Wall fell, the Berliner Mauer, that barrier system active from 1961 to 1989 erected by East German Government to prevent the free movement of people to West Germany which became the symbol of the division between East and West a historical event that marked not only the end of the infamous Cold War that had generated division, bewilderment, mistrust, lack of hope and international tensions will be celebrated throughout autumn 2024 with a series of exciting events in the German capital.
35 years later that wall which was a long system of reinforced concrete fences approximately 156 kilometres long and between 3.4 and 4.2 metres in height considered the concrete symbol of the so - called Iron Curtain that was, the imaginary border line between the Western European zones of NATO and the Socialist zones of the Warsaw Pact in Eastern Europe is no longer there and numerous events will be organized that will concern the history of the life of divided Germany.
Along the old route of the wall there will be an installation of posters reflecting the resistance against the GDR regime, the Deutsche Demokratische Republik, the German Democratic Republic, socialist state proclaimed in the Soviet sector of Berlin on 7th October 1949 that existed until 1990 when the official German reunification took place, which was formally concluded on 3rd October of the same year.
With various events in the program, scientists will exchanges innovative ideas at the Walls Science Summit which will be celebrated on the occasion of Berlin Science Week started on 07th November which will end on 10th November, an activity that will be completed with a photographic exhibition and a musical installation that will illustrate how life was in the 90s in the GDR.
