Dominican Republic | Sustained Growth of Incoming Tourism and Prospects of Historical Record

 

The Dominican Republic, country located on the island of Hispaniola with Haiti to the west in the Greater Antilles of the Caribbean, nation well known for its idyllic beaches, luxury resorts, prestigious golf courses but also for its rainforest, highlands in its interior and several natural beauties is experiencing a sustained growth in tourism with prospects of breaking the historical record for incoming tourism.

Confirmation of this growth comes from the Minister of Tourism David Collado with information released on the occasion of the presentation of statistics regarding the country's tourism sector who announced that the country in the period january - september 2024 received 8.362.285 visitors, a figure that represents the highest in that period all time with the forecast that the year will close with 11.5 million visitors setting another historical record.

The Minister then revealed specific and detailed data, communicating that in September alone, the country received 468.916 tourists who reached the Dominican Republic by air while the cruise passengers who visited the country were 111.701.

These figures that represent a growth of 55% more than in the same month of 2019 and 21% more than in 2022.

Overall, in the period january - september, the Dominican Republic received 6.430.400 visitors by air and 1.931.896 cruise passengers, and these figures, which represent a total of 8.362.295 visitors, as communicated by the Minister of Tourism, surpassed the Dominican Republic's historical record, representing an increase of 45% compared to the same period in 2019, 36% compared to 2022 and 10% compared to 2023.

It should be noted that the main markets in terms of countries are the United States of America with the 39% of the total followed by Canada 9%, Colombia, 8%, Argentina 6% and Great Britain 4%.

As for the airports that received the largest number of visitors Punta Cana stands out, 56% followed by Las Américas - Santo Domingo, 27%, Cibao, 12% and Puerto Plata, 3%.
