Mexico, country situated in the southern portion of North America, one of the world's 17 megadiverse countries in the world ranking fifth in natural biodiversity, a majot tourist destination first in the Americas and seventh in the world by the number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, through its Ministry of Tourism joined the Ibero - American Network of Smart Tourist Destinations as an institutional member.
The Ibero – American Network has more than 50 members form countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Uruguay, proagonist of several plans, projects, initiative and Mexico with this official entry seeks to create strategic alliances between actors from the public and private sectors, as well as with organizations, to generate accessible, competitive and innovative tourism development.
For the Undersecretaty of Tourism of Mexico, Sebastián Ramirez Mendoza the integration of Sectur, the government department in charge of the nation's tourism and development into the network will allow the country to join strategic alliances and to continue with the momentum in the creation and promotion of DTI, Smart Tourism Destionations, as site that have a cutting - edge technological infrastructure that improves the experience of visitors and facilitate interaction with environment and promote the quality of life of the population.
The alliances inside the network also offer the advantages to use some of the latest technological tools offered by smart destinations such as mobile apps and interactive guides among others.
The Undersecretary also stressed that the incorporation in the Ibero - American network will also allow Mexico to participate in the exchange of information, good practices and knowledge between destinations and organizations, and access database and information for support and training.
In addition the Undersecretaty of Tourism of Mexico invited the Mexican tourist destinations and municipalites, interested in starting their transition to a smarter destination to approach the Ministry of Tourism of Mexico.
