Ecuador | Created a Development Fund to Enhance Promotion, Competitiveness, Sustainability and Investment in the Tourism Sector

Ecuador, a country in northwestern South America, created and a Tourism Development Fund established with a sum of $21.79  million to Enhance promotion, competitiveness, sustainability and investment in the tourism sector. 

The Government of Ecuador announced this initiative on 31st March 2025, stating that the Fund will be used for national and international promotion to enhance the competitiveness of the destination, as well as quality, investments and connectivity.

This fund will allow participation in more international events and fairs increasing the visibility and image of Ecuador in the international landscape showcasing its potential and offer.

In addition the Tourism Development Fund will be a source for efficient management with more agile and transparent processes and an increase in investment aimed at strenghthening the tourism sector and improving Ecuador’s global competiveness according to a statement from the Ministry of Tourism.

The Minister of Tourism, Mateo Estrella said that the Tourism Development Fund represents a firm commitment to the development, sustanaibility and international projections of Ecuador, the Ministry is committed to tourism that boosts the economy and position the country as a reference destination worldwide.

 
The distribution of the Tourism Development Fund is orgamized into the following key areas : 

•    International Promotion - Strategies to strengthen Ecuador’s image in global markets. Advertising campaigns. Alliances with airlines, and greater participation in international fairs will be carried out to capture the interest of tourists and investors.
•    Tourism promotion and competitiveness -  Innovation, digitalization, training and sustainability. Training programs will be developed for entrepreneurs and local communities with the aim of improving the tourism offer and guaranteeing quality experiences for visitors.
•    National Promotion - Fairs, national events and the second season of “Ecuador a la Carta”, a documentary series that highlights the country’s gastronomic diversity. In addition, the presence of the Country Brand will reinforced in different strategic spaces.
•    Quality, investments and Connectivity - Improvement of tourism quality and strengthening of connectivity. New air routes will be implemented and tourism infrastructure will be improved in key destinations.
•    Tourism Development - Promotion od smart destinations, signage and technical assistances. Projects will be carried out to improve tourism planning in different provinces of the country.

The Minister of Tourism emphasized that tourism is advancing and Ecuador is progressing and he reaffirmed the National Government’s vision of promoting the tourism industry as an engine of development.
