El Salvador | Joining Forces and Capacities with Guatemala to Offer Better Experiences for Tourists and Traders

El Salvador, through its authorities met the counterparts of the neighboring state of Guatemala to join forces and capacities to offer better experiences for tourists and traders with the aim to develop coordinated plans that contribute to optimize flow of travellers and traders who manage commercial goods between the two countries, especially during seasons of high influx.

Promoting tourism, facilitating land transit and bilateral exchanges were the highlights among various themes addressed by the authorities of the two Central American countries.

The importance of strengthening the human and migratory processes between the nations was addressed and the possible improvements were made to facilitate it and as essential action it was necessary to take steps to streamline the management of the review of documents.

The Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador,Adriana Mira, who presided the meeting with her Guatemalan counterpart, Mónica Bolaños, said that the purpose of this meeting is to strenghten the channels of communication and coordination between both destinations, with emphasis on improving and speeding up the border crossing of people and goods.

This is an essential pillar for integration, through practical and sustainable solutions according to current needs, for a more dynamic border crossing, safe and prosperous.

In this line El Salvador and Guatemala are committed to facilitating tourist transit, mobility and security within the territories, as well as the promotion of destinations and activities for travellers. Similarly experiences and good practices were shared in terms of attention and efficiency at border posts, especially during high season.

 Another point of conversation was the optimization of custom operations, with proposals focused on the improvements of infrastructure and logistic at the corresponding control points and for this reaosn, the meeting was accompanied by members of institutions and authorities specialized in the aforementioned topics.

At the meeting for El Salvador were present the Minister of Tourism Morena Valdez, the Director General for Migration, Ricardo Cucalón and the Director General of Customs, Benjamin Mayorga. While for Guatemala were the General Director of the Guateamalan Institute of Tourism, Harris Whitbeck, the General Director of the Guatemalan Institute of Migration, Danilo Rivera and the Director of Customs of the Superintendence of Tax Administration, Edwin Curtidor.

 Based on this constructive dialogue, El Salvador and Guatemala are committed to joining efforts and capacities to offer better experiences and conditions for the reception of tourists and the flow of goods mnaged by traders, taking into account the historical relevance of these countries as trade partners and the movement of their nationals as tourists from a country to another boosting tourism.
