The Saudi government aims to transform the capital of the Kingdom, Riyadh in one of the world’s most liveable cities and among various initiatives launched Sports Boulevard, a 135 kilometres linear park project with the purpose to transform the city into a global athletics and lifestyle destination.
The project was launched on 19th March 2019 as part of the Saudi Vision 2030, the government program development by the Arab country which aims to achieve the goal of increased diversification economically, socially and culturally in line with the vision of Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohamed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
The development is one of the largest in the world operated by the Sports Boulevard Foundation, organization focuses to develop transformative, ambitious projects combining innovation, sustainability and wellness and led by the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the country.
The aim of Sports Boulevard is to inspire residents of Riyadh to adopt a heatlhy lifestyle through participation in various sports and outdoor activities, such as walking, cycling, running, and horse riding with in addition the organization of events and activities that foster a vibrant cultural and recreational atmosphere.
The Saudi Government has opened the first phase of Sport Boulevard. a 135 kilometres linear park connecting Wadi Hanifa in the west, crossing a valley which runs for a length of 120 kilometres from northwest to southeast, cutting through the city of Riyadh with Wadi Al - Sulai in the east through Mohammed bin Salman Road.
Sports Boulevard will comprise eight diverse districts such as Wadi Hanifah District, Wadi Alyasen District, Entertainment District, Athletics District, Saudi Sports Park, Eco District and Wadi Al - Sulai District.
This development will be the world’s longest that supports the capital the Arab Kingdom’s into a global athletics and lifestyle destination hosting more 50 sports facilities, pathways for pedestrians, cyclists and runners, as well as horse trails and green spaces when fully completed.
The linear park is currently 40% complete, 83.0 kilometres of the route have been developed and it is accessible to visits.
