IHCL, The Indian Hotels Company, hospitality group founded in 1902, part of Tata Group and headquartered in Mumbai, announced a partnership with the Tripura Government to develop a luxury hotel in Agartala, in the North East of India, in a territory known for its natural beauty and a very significant economic development.
The development is part of IHCL's strategic roadmap to expand its multi - brand presence in the North East region to 30 hotels by 2030, with an announcement that comes in the form of a public - private partnership with the Tripura Government.
As part of the partnership, The Indian Hotel Company has committed to investing Rs. 2500 crores in the region over the next three years, a move that reflects IHCL's commitment to developing new tourist circuits and itineraries that align with regional development goals.
The future luxury property is Taj Pushpabanta Palace located in Agartala, the capital and the largest city of the state of Tripura, situated on the banks of Haora/Saidra River, about 2.0 kilometres east of the border with Bangladesh, a centre that is a blend of cultural diversity, natural beauty and economic growth boasting a rich historical heritage, highlighted by vibrant arts and entertainment scene, an ideal destination to live and enjoy an authentic Indian experience.
The Pushpabanta Palace also known as Kunjaban Palace is one of the former royal palaces of Tripura, built by the Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya in 1917 as a holiday home for the king and his guests, it was transformed some years ago as a national - level museum, and now the building is set to be refurbished to reflect its historical significance.
The projext project includes 100 rooms which will be housed in a newly built structure designed to pay homage to the heritage palace architecture.
Selected public areas and royal suites will be housed within the palace itself, and the expansion and refurbishment are expected to be completed within three years.
The future hotel will enter in the iconic Taj brand, one of the most revered and emblematic brands owned by IHCL boasting a legacy of over 116 years, characterized by an impeccable service, luxury, comfort and embodying the spirit of "Taipness", authentic original palaces, landmark hotels, idyllic resorts interpreting the tradition of hospitality in a refreshing modern way, designed to create unique experiences and lifelong memories.
The Indian Hotel Company currently has nine operating hotels in North East of India, including a multi - brand presence in the capital cities of Guwahati with a Vivanta and Ginger, Gangtok with Taj Guras Kutir Resort & Spa, Ginger and Tree of Life resort, a Vivanta hotel in Shillong and Tawang, Ginger in Agartala and a Vivanta in the leisure destination of Pakyong.
IHCL's pipeline includes five upcoming hotels in Agartala, Itanagar, Guwahati, Jorhat and Dibrugarh. These developments are part of the Indian Hotels Company's strategic plan, Accelerate 2030, which targets growing its multi – brand presence in the region to 30 hotels by 2030.
