Saint Lucia, beautiful island nation in the Eastern Caribbean, part of the Windward Islands of the Lesser Antilles, well known for its vibrant culture, prisitne volcanic beaches, reef - diving sites, dramatically tapered mountains, and luxury resorts established a strategic partnership with SUNx Institute, organization for Environment & Sustainability that supports research and consultancy in the fields and sustainability to lead the charge in transforming tourism into a climate, resilient, low - carbon industry for a sustainable future.
SLHTA, the Saint Lucia Hospitality and Tourism Association, responsible for facilitating tourism sector development and management in the Caribben island, considered the "official organization and national spokesperson" for the hospitality industry in Saint Lucia, has joined forces with the SUNx Institute to mark Earth Day 2025 celebrated on 22nd April with the signing of a visionary Memorandum of Understanding.
This MOU is much more than a document, it's a call to action where SUNx and SLHTA are inviting, industry players, governments and travellers to champion the shift toward a travel model that safeguards the planet while fostering resilient communities and a brighter, better future.
This strategic partnership is the beginning of a relevant stage for a transformative shift towards a climate - resilient, low - carbon future for the Caribbean country, with the signing of an agreement that cements both organizations commitment to advancing CFT, Climate Friendly Travel.
This well known model that emphasizes measurable, environmentally responsible, and future - ready practices is linked to the aspects of the sustainable development coals that are more relevant to tourism and climate change.
Under this initiative SLHTA member businesses will be supported in adopting greener operations that align with the SUNx Institute's guiding principles and framework, including the goals in the UN2030/2050 sustainability roadmap.
These objectives are primarily embodied in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 SDGs, Sustainable Development Goals, which aims to achieve a sustainable future for all by 2030 and 2050.
As a recognized global champion of sustainable travel, SUNx Institute will equip Saint Lucia's tourism sector with tool, training and access to the Climate Friendly Registry which connects the country to a global network of eco - conscious travel businesses and ethically minded consumers committed to environmental stewardships.
In coincidence with the Global Earth Day 2025 theme "Planet vs Plastics" the alliance between SUNx Institute and SHLA also elevates the fight against plastic pollution, promotes waste reduction and encourages the adoption of sustainable practices across the Caribbean island's hospitality landscape.
