Punta Cana, famous and very demanded Caribbean destination situated on the easternmost tip of the Dominican Republic, abuts the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, known for its 32 kilometres stretch of pristine beaches, clear turquoise waters, vibrant nighlife and various attractions offering visitors activities like snorkeling, ziplining, exploring ecological reserves and experiencing the local culture will host a training school in hospitality and tourism in partnership with Meliá Hotels International, renowned Spanish hotel chain founded in 1956.
Infotep, the National Institute of Technical - Vocational Training and the hospitality group based in Palma de Mallorca have sealed an alliance for the creation of a school focuses on hospitality and tourism in the Dominican Repuplic, a project conceived under the hotel - school modality that aims to respond to the growing need for qualified personnel in the country’s tourism sector.
The Punta Cana’s centre will offer specialised training to employees of the chain, their families and members of the community interested in developing professionally in the sector.
Among the objectives are to improve job skills, increase employment opportunities, raise service standards, promote digitalization and create a base of professional prepared to join the group’s hotels.
The programmes will include training in key areas of the sector, such as cooking, with an emphasis on culinary techniques, pastry and food safety, bar and restaurant tasks, including mixology and customer service, reception with training in reservation management and communication and floors, focused on room maintenance and quality standards. English and digital training will also be taught.
The facilities will be ready in autumn 2025 and be located in spaces provided by Meliá Hotels International, which will also provide specialised classrooms such as kitchens and model rooms.
Infotep will be in charge of providing equipment to the training areas, as well as the supply of didactic material and technological tools for the courses.
The teaching and administrative staff will be also provided by Infotep. These professionals will have experience in hospitality and tourism, and will be in charge of the academic and logistical development of the programs. Both institutions will assume specific responsibilities to ensure that the objectives of the project are met.
For Meliá Hotels International’s CEO, Gabriel Escarrer, this project is a dream that has been with the group for more than 30 years, when the founder president, a pioneer in the destination, was fascinated by the human quality and hospitality of the Dominicans and by the enormous tourism potential of the country.
