Colombia to enhance its offerings and with the aim of promoting tourism in the southwest of the country, very attractive territory with captivating destination like Neiva, Pasto, Popayan and especially Cali, vibrant city boasting a rich cultural and historical heritage, known as the “Salsa Capital of the World” and also a centre full of art, history, and nature to explore through its Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism established a partnership with JetSMART Airlines.
JetSMART Airlines SpA is one of the fastest growing airlines in South America, a Chilean ultra - low cost carrier controlled by U.S. investment fund Indigo Partners, founded in 2017 it has as primary base of operations Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport, servicing Santiago, Chile and also owns and manages JetSMART Argentina, a subsidiary with a a base at Aeroparque Jorge Newberry in Buenos Aires.
The initiative seeks to increase air connectivity from and to Cali, the country’s third largest city and the capital of the Valle del Cauca department, consolidating it as a relevant hub in the region.
The agreement includes the launch of five new direct routes connecting Cali to Bogotá, Cartagena de Indias, Medellín, San Andrés and Santa Marta, adding more than 58 weekly frequencies.
This relevant operation represents 12% of flights to Cali, transforming the city as a leading destination and regional hub and 15% of the total number of seats available to the largest centre of the Valle del Cauca department.
The Valle del Cauca department offers diverse natural and cultural wonders like Lake Calima, San Cipriano Natural Reserve, the coastal city of Buenaventura for whale watching and Guadalajara de Buga, famous for its religious sites like the Basilica of Our Lord of Miracles.
The Minister of Tourism, Diana Morales said that the diversification of tourism in Colombia is based on the strengthening of regions with great projection.
This alliance allows the country to move towards a more competitive and inclusive model. As part of the strategy, routes such as Medellín - Montería and Medellín - Barranquilla will also be promoted, reinforcing furthermore national connectivity.
Colombia is actively working to enhance its air connectivity, both domestically and internationally, with significant investments in modernizing its air navigation infrastructure, and airport services through Aerocivil’s Strategic Investment Plan and route development and has set a goal to become a leading destination in Latin America for air travel.
