Gondwana Collection Namibia | To Open a New Desert Retreat South of Sesriem, Namibia

Gondwana Collection Namibia, a hub for travel and safaris and also offers rental cars and diverse accommodation include hotels, lodges, campsites, and self - catering based in Windhoek announced that will open a new desert retreat south of Sesriem, a small settlement in the Namib desert, in the Hardap Region, close to the southern  end of the Naukluft Mountains. 

The Luna Namib Collection, a three - unit, high - end retreat is scheduled to open in July 2026, positioned as fully inclusive, a product with a lunar guided concept, and representing a captivating development which adds luxury capacity in one of Namibia’s most in demand desert regions. 

The establishment is designed to be a private sanctuary, with each unit providing a fully inclusive experience focused on privacy, seclusion and immersion in the desert environment.

,The retreat will comprise three standalone units (two twin, one family) with dedicated concierge services. Each unit includes en - suite bathrooms, open - plan living areas, private bars, plunge pools, outdoor terraces, jacuzzis, telescopes, and dining spaces. 

Activities will feature private guided nature drives and desert hikes, with additional experiences to be confirmed closer to opening. 

The Namib Desert, originally Khoekhoegowab in the Nama language, meaning “vast place” and “an area where there is nothing” is a desert ecoregion in Namibia, with small sections also in Angola and South Africa.

Since June, 20, 2013, much of the Namib has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as is the Namib Sand Sea. Characteristics arid for over 80 million years, it is believed to be one of the oldest deserts in the world. 

The desert is an ecoregion of great interest to geologists and biologists, with a fauna and flora cosisting largely of endemic species highly adapted to this particularly hostile environment. Much of the Namib is included in protected natural areas, the most important of which is the Namib - Naukluft National Park, the largest national park in Africa, covering approximately 50.000 square kilometres.
