Activities will feature private guided nature drives and desert hikes, with additional experiences to be confirmed closer to opening.
The Namib Desert, originally Khoekhoegowab in the Nama language, meaning “vast place” and “an area where there is nothing” is a desert ecoregion in Namibia, with small sections also in Angola and South Africa.
Since June, 20, 2013, much of the Namib has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as is the Namib Sand Sea. Characteristics arid for over 80 million years, it is believed to be one of the oldest deserts in the world.
The desert is an ecoregion of great interest to geologists and biologists, with a fauna and flora cosisting largely of endemic species highly adapted to this particularly hostile environment. Much of the Namib is included in protected natural areas, the most important of which is the Namib - Naukluft National Park, the largest national park in Africa, covering approximately 50.000 square kilometres.
