The Dominican Republic | Planning to Build a New Road Connecting Miches with El Seibo to Support the Area’s Growing Tourism Industry

The Dominican Government is planning to build a new road connecting Miches, a town and a very trendy tourist destination located in the northeast coast of the Caribbean island, sits between the northern slopes of the Cordillera Oriental and the southern shore of the idyllic Samaná Bay, known for its pristine beaches and whale watching with the provincial capital  El Seibo, a city known for its agricultural heartland, traditions, lush natural surroundings, vibrant religious and cultural festivals like the Santa Cruz celebrations and its proximity to natural attractions like the Salto de El Limón, Laguna Redonda and Montaña Redonda.

The development of a new road is a strategic move to further develop the Miches area as a major tourist destination, a project which is seen as a significant step for the economic development of the Dominican Republic, specifically for El Seibo Province with the main objective to improve travel, reduce transit times, and facilitate easier movement for tourists and residents.

During the inauguration of the luxury Zemí Miches All - Inclusive Resort, the President of the Dominican Republic Luis Abinader emphasized the need to develop a road linking these two localities to support the area’s tourism industry, stating that improved infrastructure is essential to facilitate travel for both visitors and workers in the expanding hotel zone.

The President of the Caribbean country explained that constructing the new road will be a long - term project, so in the meantime, the government will assess upgrades to the existing route that crosses the eastern mountain range, taking in  consideration that the current road, is narrow and full of curves, which complicates transit and limits regional development.

Businessman, CEO of Grupo Puntacana and investor in the Zemí Miches project, Frank Elias Rainieri, also underscored the importance of the Seibo - Miches highway for the province’s sustainable growth, stating that the improved connection would not only ease access for employees but it will attract thousand of tourists eager to experience the region’s culture and hospitality.
