Brazil | Historic Surge in Tourism with Over 6.1 million International Visitors Arriving by Air Last Year

The Brazilian airport system mobilized 130 million passengers in total last year, and the South American country experienced a historic surge in tourism in 2025, with over 6.1 million international visitors arriving by air last year, a 33.2% increase from 2024 according to the official website of the Brazilian government

Air travel was the primary, dominating entry method according to official data consolidated by the Brazilian Tourism Promotion Agency, Embratur, accounting for over 66% of total international arrivals, far surpassing land, sea and river routes combined

Total international visitors (all modes) exceeded 9 million, with the Southeast region concentrated most of the flow with São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro as the main entry hubs. However, other states such as Bahia, Ceará and Santa Catarina also recorded relevant figures, which shows a greater capillarity of the international air network beyond the Rio - São Paulo axis.

The growth was accompanied by a record increase in the supply of flights and seats, as well as a real reduction in airfares, which reinforced the competiotiveness of the Brazilian destination.

By 2026, the official plan and goal is to continue expanding international connectivity, especially to airports in the Northeast and North, to diversify and decentralize tourism in the country.

Performance’s Key Features:

•    Key Air Travel Data (2025): Approximately 6.132.901 international visiutors arrived in Brazil by air.
•    Total Arrivals: The country saw a record – breaking year with more than 9 million total international tourists, exceeding expectations.
•    Key Gateways:  São Paulo (2.7 million) and Rio de Janeiro (2.1 million) airports handled the highest volume of arrivals.
•    Driver of Growth: The surge is attributed to increased air connectivity (15% seat increase in the first half of 2025), targeted international marketing by Embratur, and improved airport infrastructure.
•    Sector Performance: International tourism revenue reached 20.5 billion reais by September 2025, marking a 5.5% increase in foreign exchange earnings.

The figures, verified by the Federal Police and the Ministry of Tourism, confirm that the country surpassed its 2025 target for international visitorscin the year.
