Ecuador | Relevant Destination for MICE Tourism in Latin America

Ecuador, South American Country on the western coast of the continent straddling the equator with a notable, cultural and historic heritage since it was incorporated in the Inca Empire during the 15th century boasting a rich, diverse landscape encompassing Andean highlands, Amazon Jungle and, the wildlife - stunning Galápagos islands and much more ranks as one of the main scenarios for MICE Tourism in Latin America.

The MICE sector, meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions in Ecuador is growing, almost experiencing a sort of rebirth, the level of leisure travel is stagnating returning to indices almost parallel to the pre-pandemic period while the MICE segment is increasing year-on-year by 7% projected between 2023 and 2032.

All that is driven by the country's strategic geographical location, a notable improvement in infrastructure and a significantly expanded hotel and service offering.

This dynamic growth of some countries like Ecuador is undoubtedly pushing planners in the MICE sector to look for new, emerging and innovative destinations that grow rapidly and becoming key players for choice in a constantly evolving landscape.

Ecuador, as a country strategically located at the center of the world, promotes itself as a key regional hub, and already many professionals and companies are taking an interest in welcoming the incentives that the country offers.

First and foremost is the use of the US dollar that allows travellers to avoid the "inconvenient" exchange rates compared to other destinations in the region.

The Latin American country also has three important international airports such as the one in the capital Quito, Guayaquil, the largest city by population in Ecuador, the nation's economic capital known as a gateway to the Pacific and Manta, a relevant hub and port city on Ecuador's central coast.

Ecuador with this three hubs connects travellers to 17 countries and six very important cities of the United States of America through direct flights such as Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Miami, New York and Orlando.

This connectivity between Ecuador's most important cities and a wide range of destinations consolidates Ecuador as a relevant MICE hub with easy air access and boasting among the best infrastructure in the South American continent.

As a relevant note, the capital of Ecuador, Quito is a member of the South American MICE Alliance with Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Lima and São Paulo, an international association created with the aim of strengthening cooperation between the hubs and promoting these cities as top destinations in the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions segment in the region.

Of great importance in addition to the Ecuadorian capital is the city of Guayaquil, important, economic fulcrum of the nation, the main port center of the country, located in the south - central coastal region of Ecuador on the banks of the Guayas River about 20 kilometres from its mouth in the Pacific Ocean.

This city boasts an excellent hotel offer, modern and efficient infrastructures, a city which was nominated five times as the best destination in South America for meetings and conferences according to the WTA, World Travel Awards since 2019.
