Indonesia, country in Southeast Asia and Oceania, located between the Indian and Pacific Ocean, the world's largest archipelagic state with its over 17.000 islands, well known for its rich biodiversity, pristine, virgin beach and a cosmopolitan culture through the Ministry of Tourism has proposed plans to invest more in tourism by 2025 increasing its budget cap to 2.254 trillion rupees approximately $141.72 million to support its key initiatives.
This is undoubtedly a very significant increase from the 1.489 trillion of rupee, about $94.59 million initially proposed, although it is still lower than the 3.182 trillion rupee, about $203.18 million allocated for 2024.
Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana shared the proposal during a meeting with Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives in the capital of the country Jakarta.
The Minister said that the increase is reasonable because the budget ceiling for 2025 is significantly lower compared to 2024 and she highlighted four priority areas under the Ministry's Quick Wins' programmes with these focal points :
· Proud to travel in Indonesia, BBWI – It includes campaigns, integrated tourist packages, optimization of transportation costs and improvement of the competitiveness of the destination.
· Tourism 5.0 – Initiative include digitizing the event calendat, developing AI – powered travel planning tools, and supporting national and international events.
· Affordable airfares – Efforts to make travel more accessible to domestic and international tourists.
· Quality improvement – It involves improving human resources and supporting in the tourism sector. The Minister highlighted the ministry's collaboration with other government agencies to revitalize vocational training and education, empowering communities in tourist towns.
All these initiatives aim to promote quality standards and inclusion in the tourism sector.
