The Ministry of Tourism and ABTA, the Tourism Authority of Antigua and Barbuda announced that 2024 was as an exptional year for tourism with notable expectacions for 2025.
According to data presented at a conference, Antigua and Barbuda welcomed 330.381 visitors with a stopver in 2024 and more than 823.955 cruise passengers, a very relevant achievement that surpassed previous records and the pre - COVID - 19 baseline year.
In terms of incoming tourism the U.S. market led growth in stopover arrivals but also notable were the strong performances from the United Kingdom, Europe, Caribbean, Latin America and Canada markets.
Antigua and Barbuda reached these excellent performances thanks to a major expansion of air connectivity with an increase in American Airlines, Delta and JetBlue services, the return of the German company Condor and the introduction of Sunrise Aiirways and British Airways service also increased next to a notable promotion of the destination with its multiple offers and various options for different tourism segments.
Also the hospitality industry is protagonist, the Hotel occupancy in 2024 it exceeded that of 2019, highlighting the growing demand for the accommodation products and the cruise sector also thrived with homeport operations led by the Antigua Cruise Port and the Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority, with further expansion in 2025.
The Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Transport and Investment of Antigua and Barbuda, Charles Fernandez, said that the growth of the country in the tourism sector is a direct result of efforts of the local actors to strengthen connectivity, positioning the destination as a regional hub with two international airports, the expansion of the presence of hotels in the country and accommodation offerings, investing in human capital and stay on top continuing this brilliant momentum.
The Minister recognized all the work that has been done by the teams of the Tourism Authority of Antigua and Barbuda, the Ministry of Tourism and all the stakeholders whose collaboration and dedication have made this success possible.
The Executive Director of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, Colin, C. James said that the first quarter of 2025 promises even more, as it will bring more cruise ship calls to Antigua and Barbuda and more air travel with Frontier plans to launch its inaugural San Juan – Antigua service on 15th February 2025 connecting the country to Puerto Rico.
The Executive Director in addition noted that foodies will be tempted during Antigua and Barbuda's new Culinary Month in May, with the expansion of culinary events that will include Antigua and Barbuda Restaurant Week, FAB Fest, Food Forum and Eat Like a Local, a move making Antigua's and Barbuda a new culinary hotspot in the Caribbean with a unique opportunity to showcase its large and delicious gastronomic offer elevating the country as a very trendy destination also in this segment.
Further event of relevance are the celebration of the Nelson Shipyard's 300th anniversary and for the first time ever and Antigua and Barbuda will host the Caribbean Travel Marketplace of the CHTA, Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association from 18th to 22nd May 2025, that will be jam – packed year for the country.
In addition the Antugua and Barbuda Tourism Authority also announced the launch of a revamped destination website and the Tourism Authority's director of digital media, Sharifa George, reported that the new website is modern, cutting - ege, functional and meets the needs of all stakeholders, offering data capture, enabling a more targeted digital marketing approach and a user - friendly interface for all users.
