Brazil | International Tourism Spending Reached a New Record in Q1 2025

Brazil, the largest and most populous country in South and Latin America is experiencing a substantial growth in the tourism sector and a confirmation of this very positive momentum is international tourism spending in the country that reached a new record in Q1 2025.

Between January and March 2025, international visitors left $2.401 million in the South American country, reflecting a growth of 16% compared to the same period last year

The data was released by Bacen, the Central Bank of Brazil and analysed by the Ministry of Tourism, deternining that this is the best result in the historical series for the national tourism sector.

This very expressive performance places international tourism ahead of important products in the Brazilian trade balance, some examples reflect that in the same period cotton exports generated $1.57 billion, while external sales of poultry meat totaled $2.3 billion. 

In March alone, Brazil recorded the netry of $773 million in revenue from external spending, a figure that represents an increase of 31% compared to March 2024 and in the same month, and another example in the Brazilian industry is that pork export revenue were $728 million behind the income generated by tourism.

The accelerate pace of growth of the tourism sector in the country can also be seen in the arrival of international visitors to Brazil. In the first quarter of 2025, 3.739.649 international visitors landed in Brazilian destinations, and these numbers represent an increase of 47.8% compared to the same period last year.

The Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino said that these results demonstrate the strength of tourism as one of the great engines of Brazilian economy. The country focusing on tourism is overcoming the traditional export sectors, demonstrating that investing in Brazil as a destination is investing in growth, employment and development for the country.

The President of Embratur, the Brazilian Tourist Board, Marcelo Freixo, stated that there is no doubt about the importance of international tourism to move the national economy. 

The sequence of records is the result of a strong work to promote Brazil in the world and it means the development for small and medium - sized companies that make up than 95% of the tourism market in the country and the generation of employment and income in this sector.
