Marriott International | To Open its First Autograph Collection Safari Camp in Tanzania's Serengeti

Marriott International, American multinational company headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, signed a deal to open its first Autograph Collection Safari Camp in Tanzania's Serengeti by Q3 2025.

This project with the opening Mapito Safari Camp marks a significant expansion into nature - based travel in an iconic African ecosystem spanning the Mara and Arusha Regions of Tanzania, a protected area within the region includes approximately 30.000 square kilometres of land, including the emblematic Serengeti National Park and several game reserves.

The Safari Camp is strategically located in the heart of the Serengeti ecosystem, near the Fort Ikoma Historical Building, gate to the Serengeti National Park, constructed by the Germans in 1905 on top of the most easterly of a series of low hills called Nyabuta, about 1.6 km north of the Grumeti River.

Mapito Safari Camp is positioned between Central Serengeti and the western migration corridor, which is directly on the route of the Great Migration.

This migration is a clockwise circuit, following the rains and the availability of grazing between May and July in the Serengeti, a yearly spectacle where over two million wildebeest, accompanied by gazelles and zebras, move through Tanzania's Serengeti National Park and into Kenya's Masai Nara in search of greener pastures and water.

The area surrounding the camp is teeming with wildlide throughout the year, including buffalo, elephants, giraffes, leopards and lions, offering guests remarkable encounters in every season.

The camp's design will draw inspiration from the surrounding landscape and the local Ikoma culture linked to an ethnic and linguistic group mainly based in Mara Region in northern Tanzania highlighted by the presence of the Ikoma Cultural Centre, located near Mugumu and west of Serengeti National Park, a popular destination for visitors seeking a glimpse into the diverse cultures of the region.

Sustainable practices will be incorporated into the camp's operations to support conservation efforts and minimize environmental impact.

The Safari Camp will features 16 tented suites and a two - bedroom villa, each equipped with an outdoor deck, fire pit, and retractable roof for open - air stargazing.

Mapito Safari Camp also plans to include a spa, fitness centre, swimming pool, and multiple dining options, among them "The Boma", a communal restaurant inspired by traditional bonfire gatherings.

At Mapito Safari Camp guests can expect a range of immersive experiences, like spectacular daytime game drives but also evocative night safaris that showcases in all its essence the Serenegeti's nocturnal rhythms and attractiveness, walking safaris and hot hair balloon flights.

The Developer of Mapito Safari Camp, Rishen Patel, is collaborating with Marriott International to bring this unique travel experience in the Serengeti.

The camp is expected to offer an intimate and immersive experience that greatly reflects both the region's natural wonder and the brand's timeless storytelling and craftmanship combined with the genuine and true Africa.
