Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil | Consolidation as One of the Safest States in the Country for Visitors

Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil's southernmost state, bordering Argentina and Uruguay, a land that offers a diverse range of tourist experiences, from stunning natural landscapes to rich cultural attractions, well known for its European cultural influence, Gaucho culture, vibrant cities and towns, vineyards, a delicious cuisine and attracting many travellers seeking adventures and relaxation alike consolidated its position as one of the safest states in the country for visitors only behind the Federal District and Santa Catarina.

The result was presented by the Civil Police during a meeting with authorities and leaders of the tourism sector on 24th April in Porto Alegre, the capital and largest city of the state of Rio Grande do Sul in an event that highlighted the direct impact of security on the promotion of tourism and the attraction of new visitors to the Brazilian state.

Between 2022 and 2024, the main crimes that affect the sense of security of those showed a strong retraction, there was a decrease of 47.16% in robberies, 49.52% in robberies of pedestrians, 25.87% in vehicle thefts and 44.78% in robberies lof commercial establishments.

The presentation of the indicators was in in charge of the head of the Civil Police, delegate Fernando Sodré, who highlighted the importance of coordination between institutions, pointing out that, even in the face of challenges such as the pandemic and extreme weather events that plague the state, the achievements are the result of consistent strategies and permanent work,  and the drop in indicators reinforces that planning is working.

The numbers undoubtedly show the effectiveness of the comprehensive action of the security forces and the institutional commitment to the protection of residents and tourists and this historic drop in crime reinforces the image of the state positioning itself as a reliable destination.

During the event the Secretary of Tourism of Rio Grande do Sul, Ronaldo Santini, said that safety is a fundamental pillar for the development of the sector, stating that travellers want to feel safe to enjoy everything a destination has to offer.

These data confirm that Rio Grande do Sul is on the right track, security is a delivery that transforms not only the lives of those who live here, but also the experience of those who visit the state.

The Secretary of Tourism added that with positive data and growing recognition, Rio Grande do Sul reinforces its vocation as a tourist destination of excellence.

The combination of public safety, shelter, and diversity of attractions makes the state increasingly competitive on the national stage, and Rio Grande do Sul is ready to welcome tourists with the hospitality as always and now, with even more security.
