Cuba | Betting on Mexico to Increase Tourist Flows to Revitalize its Tourism Sector

Cuba is actively working to increase the flow of Mexican tourists to the island, aiming to revitalize its tourism sector. This effort includes promoting a shared visa system for Latin American countries similar to Schengen Area, to facilitate travel and attract visitors from distant markets.

The Caribbean country also seeks to strengthen ties with Mexico through initiatives like multi - destination tourism promotion between Havana and Mexico City, two relevant hubs in the region.

Efforts are being made to increase air routes between Mexico and various Cuban destinations like Havana, Villa Clara and Varadero and the two countries are highlighting their shared cultural and historical ties to attract visitors.

The Cuban Minister of Tourism Juan Carlos García said that his country is committed to Mexico once again being one of the of the main sources of visitors to Cuba, and he will work tirelessly for it.

Together with the Mexican government, both countries are partnering in promotion and advertising and doing many things together.

In the context of a meeting with tour operators and agencies to expose the potential of the so - called industry without chimney, the Minister of tourism od Cuba alluded in conversation with the media to the difficult situation that the sector is going through in his country.

The Minister stated that tourism at the moment is going through a very difficult situation, which is multifactorial but, what Cuba has done is analyze the causes, the objective and even the subjective, and it is essential to draw up strategies and actions to solve them.

The head of tourism of Cuba emphasized the importance of returning to the nation's traditional markets, described Latin America as extremely important to recover that tourism and highlighted the commitment to Mexico, but also other countries, such as Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Peru.

These countries are very close, it is important to improve communication much more, realising what Cuba is doing today, what it can offer, which kind of quality of tourism Cuba offers, and showcasing the variety that make up Cuban tourism.

In this sense, the Minister stressed that in addition to its beautiful beaches, Cuba boasts culture, nature and great potential in the development of medical tourism.

The Minister mentioned, on the other hand, the effects of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the Caribbean island, in the face of which an evaluation of the scenario is made and no one "cries in a corner", but rather it is a matter of achieving objectives in such an adverse scenario.

During the meeting at the hotel Barceló Mexico Reforma in Mexico City, the Secretary of Tourism of Mexico City, Alejandra Frausto, highlighted the brotherhood with Cuba and asserted that these cultural bridges, friendship, solidarity, affection and shared desires have to germinate in tourism.
